Abstract:

The problem of a strongly rarified plasma flow around a charged body was investigated by many authors with a majority of investigations devoted to plasma oscillations. In this case the body is considered as a point, and boundary condition problems were studied. Jastrow and Pears assumed a potential field around the body as a spherical symmetrical and found a solution analogous to the Debye solution, but the assumption adopted by them did not actually consider the bodys oncoming. In the report a case is discussed in which the Debye radius is large in comparison to the characteristic dimension of the body, which is not applicable during the investigation of body movements in the ionosphere, where a reversible relation takes place. The reports used in solving the equation for the potential of iteration methods did not give the possibility of detecting the characteristic phenomenon of the boundary layer which gives a rapid change in potential in the vicinity of the body and the given expressions for the potential are valid only at a great distance from the body. In addition, errors in determining the ion density were committed which involved errors in determining the potential. Author
