Crotalus atrox venom was resolved into several biologically active components by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose. Toxicity could not be definitely related to any measured enzymatic activity. The toxic protein probably required some metal ion for activity, since EDTA was an effective inhibitor. The degradative enzymes in C. atrox did not contribute to the primary toxicity of the venom.
