Abstract:
The Lightweight Helicopter Remote Classification and Localization System HERCULES sea unit, XWO-1, was hydrodynamically tested. The results showed that the sea unit, with a 2 degree hydrophone, was tilted by a water current. By using a plexiglass fairing with the hydrophone, the tilting was greatly reduced. The tilting of the sea unit would reduce the effective range of the system. Several concepts are proposed to reduce the tilting problem. Author
