Abstract:
The equations for the velocity potential, partial time derivative of the velocity potential, tangential velocity, and normal velocity for a source sheet and vortex sheet representation of the nonspherical underwater explosion bubble were derived and programmed for the IBM 7090 computer. These equations were tested for the known case of a spherical underwater explosion bubble and the results were sufficiently accurate for practical application. The conclusion is that the nonspherical underwater explosion bubble can be represented by a source sheet and vortex sheet. This representation will not interfere with the jet rising into the interior of the bubble, as is the case of the earlier models consisting of a single point source and a single dipole located on the axis of symmetry.
