Abstract:

Work resulting in the following accomplishments is summarized 1 the extension of the theory of excitons to circumstances where charge delocalization is important 2 the development of a deeper understanding of the nature of dynamical coherence in classical many body systems and its role in transport phenomena 3 successful completion of a set of experimental studies designed to elucidate the nature of excess electron states in very simple liquids and the development of a zeroth order theory to describe the experimental data 4 the development of a theory of electron-atom scattering and of the Rydberg states of molecules based upon a pseudopotential approach 5 the development of a new approximation in the equilibrium theory of liquids, its testing against experiment, and the initiation of a study of its implications for the theory of phase transitions.
