Abstract:
The thesis presents the results of measurements above an unstable evaporating film of water. Entrained liquid as droplets was present in the boundary layer. The measurements were made at one liquid flow rate at the following gas flow conditions Total temperature - 980R, Total pressure - 250 psia, Gas velocity - 100 ftsec, Axial static pressure gradient - less than 0.02 psift. Photographs taken at 3 microsec were obtained of the interfacial structure of the liquid film. The temperature of the film was also measured. The experiments were conducted in a tunnel with a rectangular cross section 1 1 2 in. x 4 in. and 22 in. long, onto one side of which was injected the liquid as a film. Measurements in the boundary layer were carried out for both wet and dry walls.
