Three thermoelectric heating and ventilating systems for environmental control of troops when exposed to extreme environments or enemy imposed hazards were delivered. Modifications of a battery start, easy fill fuel tank and a package cover were requested after delivery of the first unit and were then made to all three units. The modifications increased the package weight but were considered necessary for the success of the program. In general, the units performed well in laboratory evaluation delivering the required 18 cfm of air at 4 in. static water pressure or 28 watts of electrical power to an external load. Additional areas of improvement became evident during the fabrication and laboratory evaluation of the three units. The weight of the unit could be reduced to a maximum of eleven pounds from the present 15.7 lbs., including all present specifications and modifications.
