Abstract:

The design and performance of an experimental in-line microwave frequency harmonic generator are described and the efficiency of the Gallium Arsenide varactor diode used in this device for the generation of harmonic microwave power at 26.4 Gcs from a fundamental frequency of 8.8 Gcs, is discussed. The waveguide circuit includes a specially fabricated waveguide mount for the varactor and filters to extract power at the harmonic frequencies. The effect of bias voltage across the varactor on efficiency has been studied in detail, and particular attention is paid to circuit design for proper matching of the system and optimum conversion efficiencies. The experimental findings are discussed with reference to current knowledge on the subject. Author
