Abstract:

The closed loop dynamic response of a VSTOL airplane, pilot, and autostabilization system was studied with the purpose of demonstrating which airplane parameters are most important in determining the airplanes low speed flight characteristics. The influence of the stability augmentation system was found to be so great that the other parameters are small by comparison. The most important stability and control parameter in low speed, VSTOL aircraft flight, therefore, is control power.
