Abstract:

In this paper the energy method was employed to analyze the elastic-plastic deformation of thin sheels of linear hardening materials. The strain energy is calculated by using the method elastic energy together with a reduced plastic energy, and the problem becomes an elasticity problem together with an ideal plasticity problem. The problem of a circular cylindrical shell loaded symmetrically with respect to its axis was also calculated. Results are in agreement with those of A.A. Ilyushin. Utilizing this method, a considerably simpler calculation formula was obtained which describes the case of plastic deformation. Thus the calculation work is drastically reduced and the mechanical conception is also relatively easy to understand hence, this method is easy to apply to other cases. Author
