The report covers the evaluation of 6 chemical treatments including 2 self-crosslinking thermoplastic copolymers, a fluorocarbon resin, a polyvinyl alcohol resin, a saturated solution of calcium and magnesium bicarbonates, and a urea formaldehyde resin for possible use in upgrading UU-P-268 type kraft paper. It was desired to obtain improved microbiological, oil, water and heat aging resistance. A commercially prepared kraft paper had good heat aging resistance and was fungus resistant. The papers treated with the bicarbonate solution had excellent heat aging resistance. None of the chemically treated papers or commercially prepared kraft paper met all the desired requirements. In general, it is thought that the already sized condition of the kraft paper substrate made the papers receptivity to treatment somewhat variable. Author
