Abstract:

The proper or characteristic value-vector problem for a linear operator is formulated as a nonlinear equation in the product of a Banach space and its scalar field. The solution of this equation by Newtons method is considered, and the theorem of L. V. Kantorovic is applied to obtain sufficient conditions for convergence and error estimates. The problem of finite - dimensional approximation of an operator on a space of infinite dimension is also considered. Author
