The numerical stability and accuracy of the ordinary iterative procedure for solving linear algebraic systems of equations are considered in the paper, the effects of round-off error and the use of digital numbers of finite length being taken into account. The results are applied to the approximate solution of the Dirichlet problem for Poissons equation by a simple finite-difference scheme. Author
