Abstract:

This work has confirmed the accuracy of the analysis used in the design of Fiberglas covered steel spar propeller blades the weight reduction possibilities of this blade concept, the satisfactory nature of the producibility and quality repeatability attainable on this multi-material structure and a structural strength well above anticipated operating stress levels. However, certain phases also demonstrated the desirability of performing additional studies, particularly in the areas of spar quenching, coverspar bonding materials, spar and cover cavity fill materials, and blade surface erosion and damage.
