Dynamics of saccadic eye-movement mechanism An on-line computer was used to experimentally measure the dynamic performance of horizontal eye movement saccades. A mathematical model based upon physiological measurements in the literature was assembled for the plant--eyeball and eye muscles., and the controller signals-EMG. Simulation of the model with parameter adjustment led to reasonably close agreement between model and experimental overall behavior. It was found that actual movements require about three times as long for completion as would be necessary if the system operated with a minimum time policy. Neurological servomechanisms The transfer function of the crayfish photoreceptor is examined, and successive refinements of technique and recording in three series of experiments are described. In the first series of experiments gross recordings were made of averaged frequency responses to sinusoidal inputs at several different frequencies. The instrumentation of the first experimental series was supplemented in the second and third series of experiments by a pulse height window which permitted only pulses from fibers responding to light intensity to be recorded.
