Abstract:

The structure of the excited levels in some neutron-deficient barium isotopes is described. A comparison between the results experimentally obtained by different authors and those theoretically predicted by several nuclear models is performed. The character of the collective transitional region to which belong these nucleides is thoroughly discussed, relation is made with the competition between spherical and deformed shapes in different regions of the deformation chart.
