Abstract:

Experimental effort was spent in trying to make a new microstrain apparatus work in compression at helium temperatures. The instrumental non-linearities in the load-deformation curve were removed by correcting small amounts of bending in the apparatus. Finally linearity but not retrace was obtainable where the lack of retrace was shown to be instrumental in origin and not depend on the specimen.
