The infrared spectrum of matrix isolated vapors from solid Li20 has been investigated on the region 60 - 350cm. At 1640K, where the polyatomic species Li20g predominates, a single feature is found at 118cm for Li270g and 112cm for Li260g. This is assigned to the bending mode nu sub 2. At higher temperatures, 1740K, where the concentration of Li202g becomes significant, two additional bands are found. On the basis of Li6-Li7 isotopic shifts and relative intensities, it is possible to identify the bands in the region 240-260cm with the B sub lu out of plane mode of Li202g and those at 231-243cm to nu sub 2 of a new molecular species Li02g. A force constant analysis is given. On the basis of the present work it has been concluded that Li20 is most probably linear and Li02 symmetric and nearly linear. Author
