The technique of applying the matrix displacement method of structural analysis to various static and dynamic plate and shell problems has been developed. The plate or shell under consideration is idealized into an assemblage of finite elements interconnected at their nodal points. The method of calculating the individual element stiffness matrices is illustrated by considering a triangular element. The equilibrium of the complete structure is then considered. Problems involving geometrical nonlinearities have been solved by a step-by-step procedure to permit linearization. Author
