Abstract:

Twelve of the most frequently confused alphanumeric symbols were selected from Leroy and LincolnMITRE LM fonts and studied for their relative legibilities. Human subjects saw the symbols with five different brightness contrast ratios, and errors were recorded. The LM font gave significantly fewer errors at all contrast ratios. It was concluded that the LM font will yield better legibility than the Leroy font and that a greater reduction in errors can be obtained by using the LM font than by increasing the contrast of a display using Leroy symbols.
