Attempts to characterize the time course of parental-versus-F1 hybrid immunological reactions in sublethally irradiated mice have resulted in the following observations 1 It was possible to reverse the lethal effect of the reaction by means of a second dose of X rays delivered up to 4 days after injection of the parental lymphoid cells. In contrast, mice irradiated 5 days or later succumbed to the disease. 2 Non-irradiated host type colony-forming units in the spleens of mice undergoing the parental F1 hybrid disease were depleted at 5 days, and in the marrow by 7 days. 3 It was not possible to reverse the lethal course of the disease with large doses of host type hematopoietic cells injected 3 to 6 days after injection of the parental cells.
