The objective of the gear testing program was to provide growth potential for high capacity transmission systems, such as the CH-47A. Increased load carrying capacity for a gear system may be related to improvements in design, materials, or processing, or operating environment. This program undertook to compare three significantly different gear tooth grinding methods, and assess their effect on bending fatigue life.
