COMPUTER ROUTINES TO READ NATURAL TEXT WITH COMPLEX FORMATS
RAND CORP SANTA MONICA CA
Pagination or Media Count:
The memorandum describes a set of subroutines for the IBM 704044 computers for reading textual material with complex formats and coding conventions--questionnaires, library catalog cards, et.--from any external medium into the high-speed store of the machine. Different kinds of information in the input are recognized by explicit markers, position on the line or page, or syntactic clues given by other items. Less complex material requires only a portion of the system. Information may be recoded according to the users conventions before being delivered to his program. The routines may be called from either FORTRAN- or MAP-coded programs.
