This report summarizes techniques for the automatic production of catalog card sets from machine-interpretable records. The automatic techniques were developed to facilitate increased book cataloging without increasing manpower requirements at the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories AFCRL Research Library the machine-interpretable records format was designed to be compatible with the requirements of other Air Force libraries and information systems as well as the AFCRL Research Library. Appendix A described the AFCRL Research Librarys process flow. The recommended cataloging procedures described below are designed to be compatible with this, yet take advantage of labor- saving machine techniques. The recommended cataloging procedures preserve all current controls on the content and accuracy of the AFCRL Research Library catalog cards, and produce sets of catalog cards which are similar to those filed in the catalog to date.
