The contribution to the absorbed dose in tissue-equivalent material from secondary ionizing particles produced is nuclear reactions in the stopping of 193 MeV protons has benn estimated as a function of penetration depth. The yield of radionuclides of sufficienb half-life to permit detection has been calculated. The calculations are based on a literature survey of empirical cross sections for proton-induced reactions in oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. Author
