The problem of wave propagation is considered for three different self-gravitating elastic spheres. In the first the initial state of stress is radially symmetric and the sphere is transversely isotropic with respect to the radial direction at every point. In the second the state of stress is isotropic at every point, and the elastic properties are as in the first sphere. The third sphere corresponds to the usual isotropic Earth model used in seismology theory. The general solution for SH-type wave fronts is obtained for all three spheres and the results are compared from the point of view of applying seismographical T-delta data to determine the variation of wave speed with depth.
