Abstract:

Available information on the joint occurrence of high temperatures and dew points are presented for 17 stations 7 in Asia, 7 in Africa, 2 in North America, and 1 in Australia in order that the geographical distribution of high temperatures and associated humidities may be better known. This information will be used in a planned revision of AR 705-15 Operation of Materiel under Extreme Conditions of Environment. On the basis of these data it appears that the natural occurrence of dew points higher than 75F in conjunction with temperatures higher than 109F is very infrequent and should not be specified for guidance in design and testing of Army materiel except possibly for items which may be used in limited areas of the Persian Gulf and Red Sea littorals where extremely high temperatures and humidities have been observed or are assumed to occur.
