A set of calculations on the angular and spatial distribution of monoenergetic neutrons in a uniform slab was made using the S sub n method. The basic S sub n technique is explained in detail. A FORTRAN II computer code for the IBM 7090 for the distribution of monoenergetic neutrons in plane geometry using the S sub n approximation is presented. Absorption and isotropic elastic scattering are taken into account. Calculations were conducted to study the effect on the neutron distribution of varying the space mesh size and the number of angular intervals. The results indicated that an S sub 8 approximation and a space mesh increment of less than or equal to 0.2 mean free path will give sufficiently good accuracy for calculation of the flux. Graphs and tables showing the variation of flux, inverse relaxation distance, and linear extrapolation distance with c the ratio of the scattering to the total macroscopic cross sections are presented.
