An analysis of a system composed of a mass supported by an isolation mount attached longitudinally to a column terminated at a submarine hull shows that, without the mount, a force applied at the mass is generally magnified at the hull, and with the mount, the same input force is generally attenuated by a significant amount at the hull. The study also shows that an increase in mount damping by a factor of 100 decreases the amount of attenuation, but not significantly. Author
