Abstract:

The earth-ionospheric cavity resonance frequencies were measured by two methods somewhat different from that employed hitherto by other workers. The instruments used were all battery-operated. The recordings have been carried out close to Isfjord Radio, Spitzbergen geographic latitude 78 deg 03.9 min N and close to Lavangsdalen, Northern - Norway geographic latitude 69 deg 15.5 min N during 1965. It has been possible to record detailed power spectra of these cavity resonances by integration over only a few seconds of data. Between DC and 45 cs average peak frequencies at 7.78 plus or minus 0.08, 14.05 plus or minus 0.15, 20.3 plus or minus 0.2, 32.1 plus or minus 0.2, 32.1 plus or minus 0.3, 37.1 plus or minus 0.3 and 42.9 plus or minus 0.4 cs have been observed. Also at frequencies above 45 cs there seems to be strong indications of higher resonance modes. Author
