Measured was the coefficient of secondary electronic copper emission, of kupalloy and beryllium bronze under vacuum conditions, characteristic for large separable electro-vacuum installations with vapor-oil pumps and rubber packings. Examined was the effect on secondary emission of electronic and ionic bombardment and a series of chemical and mechanical surface machinings. Measurements were carried out with the aid of an ordinary electrostatic unit. A tantalum strip serves as the cathode with thorium oxide, spot applied against the opening in the focusing electrode. The installation was placed in a sectional steel vacuum chamber, which is evacuated by an oily diffusion pump with nitrogen traps. Beam voltage and the primary and secondary electron currents are registered on a multiple point self-recording potentiometer, allowing one to remove dependence graphs of the secondary electronic emission coefficient.
