A space-charge flow for the magnetron injection gun has been derived which includes the effect of a constant electric field parallel to the cathode. The analysis indicates that the introduction of such a field in a magnetron injection gun will reduce electron back-bombardment of the cathode and improve beam laminarity. Back-bombardment and nonlaminarity are deleterious to the useful operation of magnetron injection guns, which are often needed for incorporation in high-power microwave tubes. Author
