Abstract:

In the past, most MTI radars have used analog signal processing. With the present capability in analog-to -digital converters, digital memories and arithmetic units, it is possible to perform this processing digitally in some systems. A trend toward digital MTI processors can be expected with future improvements in digital technology. This paper deals with the effect of quantum size, or number of bits in the analog-to-digital conversion, on quantization noise in the output of an MTI processor. The correlation between quantization errors on successive pulses is considered in the analysis. This correlation has a quieting effect in some cases, reducing the output quantization noise.
