Abstract:

Free-flooding magnetostrictive scroll transducers are rugged and reliable and are relatively insensitive to hydrostatic pressure however, they normally have a relatively narrow bandwidth. This report describes the experimental results achieved in broadening the bandwidth of free-flooding magnetostrictive scroll transducers by coupling the cavity and ring resonances of the scrolls. Transducers with varying degrees of coupling between the cavity and ring resonances are considered. It would appear that the cavity resonance may have important use in this type of transducer and is deserving of further serious consideration. Author
