Abstract:

The object was to evaluate the shelf stability and inhibiting ability of gum preventive compound meeting Federal Specification VV-G-800. Varying amounts of gum preventive compounds were added to combat gasoline and regular motor fuel and stored at ambient temperature in order to determine its inhibiting ability. The shelf stability of the concentrated gum preventive packaged in containers of various types and capacities was determined at 72 and 110F. Storage test results show that the gasoline gum preventive has satisfactory inhibiting ability and shelf stability for a minimum of 24 months. Four ounce screw top, tin lined type cans, sufficient for a single application is considered to be the best packaging medium for this compound. Author
