Most of the basic research presented can be divided into three major areas 1 further studies of the acoustic features that carry speech intelligibility, 2 investigations of articulatory gestures that give rise to the acoustic cues, and 3 the development of instrumentation to make such research possible. All the work is presented as a series of articles and papers each of which is signed by the staff members who bore the primary responsibility for that aspect of the research.
