Abstract:

For decimetric waves transmission losses on a transhorizon link are such that present techniques do not permit transmitters and receivers to be more than a few hundred kilometers apart. However, in some special cases, due to the structure of the atmosphere, one may anticipate for definite areas of the world, a possibility of transmitting over much greater distances than currently admitted. The study of the trade winds reversal areas within the northern part of the equatorial Atlantic, may lead one to assume the existence of a duct expanding over several thousand kilometers between the Caribbean Sea and West Africa. The subject of this study is to check this possibility and contingently to infer there from some characteristics of the atmosphere. Author
