Abstract:

The study is concerned with the sighting error of optical theodolites in conjunction with sighting disks in polygonometry. The sighting error is a measure for the uncertainty in pointing the line of sight of a sighting telescope on a target. It is the summary expression for the conjoined action of its four components 1 error of the observer, 2 error of the instrument, 3 error of the medium, and 4 error of the target. Results of the investigation of the four Sighting-Error Components are presented.
