Abstract:

A critical survey is presented of the flow of an ionized gas in a channel under the influence of transverse electro-magnetic fields. First, the exact quasi-one dimensional equations of magneto-gas dynamics are derived. The importance of the various covariance coefficients is pointed out. In the literature, only the cases with covariance coefficients of unity have been reported. A survey of these cases has been made which includes 1 inviscid steady flow, 2 steady flow of viscous and heat-conducting fluid and 3 unsteady flow. Finally, we summarize our present knowledge of quasione dimensional flow of magneto-gas dynamics and make some recommendations for future research. Author
