After considering the limitations imposed by the characteristic response of filled elastomers on the performance of case-bonded solid propellant grains, particularly the effect of loss of filler-binder interaction with increasing strain, the significant features of metal-wire of mesh-reinforced grains are discussed. The difference between the design criteria for such grains and for other types of reinforced structures is emphasized and the inapplicability of classical methods of visco -elastic analysis is discussed. Methods of analysis of elastic orthotropic, inhomogeneous, case bonded grains are summarized and their limitations shown with respect to optimal utilization of the reinforcement. Such utilization requires thickness of the grain and the consideration of its elastic-plastic response in grain analysis. Author
