The purpose of the study was to evaluate some of the causes that may interfere with doctor-patient communication 1 Vocabulary knowledge of common medical terms on the part of patients. Such variables as socio-economic status, origin urban or rural, education, age and sex will be considered. 2 Degree of understanding by both doctor and patient, to be measured by means of separate interviews that will be checked against the tape-recorded doctorpatient interview. 3 Presentation of self by both doctor and patient during the medical interview and its influence in rapport. 4 Social distance between doctor and patient and degree of social mobility of each.
