Abstract:
Upper and lower bounds on reliability, similar to those given by Shannon B.S.T.J. 38, 1959, pp. 611-656 are derived and computed for several classes of codes for the gaussian channel which are more restrictive than the classes considered by Shannon. Curves, which include Shannons results for comparison, are given for selected values of signal-to-noise power ratio ranging from zero to 256. The classes of codes include 1 codes in which all coordinates of each code vector are either P, where P is the signal power, 2 codes in which successive pairs of coordinates in each code vector are chosen as coordinates of q equally spaced points on a circle, and 3 codes in which successive sets of m coordinates of each code vector are chosen arbitrarily from an m-dimensional sphere.
