Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine the existing theories for material response, utilizing the dynamic stress-strain properties of rate sensitive materials. All the predictions made from the theories were verified experimentally. An air gun was used to impact small Lexan cylinders against a high strength target. The deformation, as well as the propagation of the stress wave resulting from the impact was measured and are within 8.5 of the predicted results. Author
