Abstract:
The report is basically a review of contemporary mechanical shock measurement practice, the applicable instruments, and their range of use. It includes discussion of the problem factors which condition selection of a measurement system, most of the commonly employed transducers, a representative shock measurement application, and elementary accuracy considerations. A recent program carried out involving 1500 shock records provides useful examples of shock measurement applications of a variety of transducers. No specific conclusions or recommendations are presented in the report, since the purpose is to outline the capabilities and limitations of instrumentation suited for use in a variety of measurement problems.
