Abstract:

The null-balance transmissometer NBT is an instrument being developed to measure the volume attenuation coefficient of light in the sea to depths of 2,000 meters. In earlier tests AD-613 017, the operation of the NBT was tested in its working environment to depths of 700 meters. In this report, the first deep sea tests of the NBT, in which measurements were made to the 2,000-meter maximum depth capability of the instrument, are documented. The tests were conducted at 10 locations in the North Pacific from the Aleutian Islands to the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian Archipelago. Author
