The study is addressed to the development of accelerated reliability test methods for long lived mechanical and electromechanical parts. The parts studied were a subminiature snap-action switch, a crystal can relay, a mechanical seal, and a rubber timing belt. The failure times of all parts fit Weibull distributions. Failure analysis data is presented. Several mathematical models are presented as tentative representations of the failure laws operating under conditions of combined stresses. The merits of each are investigated in relation to the data generated during this study.
