Abstract:

The U. S. Navy type and the British quick release type of parachute harness were tested with respect to the ease and speed of release under the following conditions 1 On land under good conditions. 2 On land in simulated bad weather a In high wind, b With wet hands and harness, c At 0 F, d With heavy flying mittens. 3 In the water and suspended above the water a In the water, b Suspended 8 ft. above water, c In the water life jacket inflated. 4 Using one hand a Dry, b With wet hands and harness. Two examples of accidental jamming are discussed and the subject of accidental release is considered.
