Analysis shows that transparency of the water being equal, the relative size of the changes in water temperature due to volumetric absorption of the penetrant solar radiation, as compared with that of the changes of water temperature due to complete absorption of the solar radiation flux at the sea surface, substantially decreases with increasing intensity of the vertical turbulent exchange. Calculation of the radiative heating of the water by the method with assumption that there is no heat exchange between neighboring layers of water yields figures that are a good deal too high. In the general case, the solution to the problem of the forming of the water temperature in the surface layer of the sea, with different ways of allowing for the influence of solar radiation that is, complete surface absorption or volumetric absorption will give equivalent results under the conditions defined by inequalities.
