The report presents techniques for the design of a system which uses multiple fixed compensators to provide invariant aircraft response. The frequency response method of analysis is used and the criteria for choosing the number of compensators and switching time are given. Dynamic pressure is the only factor used to determine the flight conditions for switching. An application of the techniques to the X-15 pitch-rate loop proved them to be very realistic. The command response was very nearly the same for all flight conditions and the gust response was attenuated quickly. Switching transients were not found to be undesirable. Author
