The report contains results of an experimental investigation to determine the stresses in a thin-walled cylindrical shell subjected to a radial load applied by a small, rectangular pad. Four loading devices are studies 3 rubberlined pad configurations, 1 pneumatic bag, constrained to apply a load over a rectangular area. There is sufficient duplication of test parameters to check repeatability of results. The test results show rather close agreement with available theoretical values. Author
